KARACHI: Japan and Pakistan have always enjoyed good friendly relations, said Consul General of Japan in Karachi, Akinori Wada.
Addressing the members of the Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) here on Tuesday, he stated that Japan is interested in further strengthening its ties with Pakistan.
He said that Japan has been providing Pakistan technical assistance and was also contributing towards stabilizing its economy.
The consul general pointed out that at the donors’ conference Japan announced financial assistance to the tune of one billion US dollars. He said that Japan has also given funds for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Swat.
Referring to bilateral trade between Pakistan and Japan, he pointed out that the share of Pakistan was less and needed to be enhanced.
Akinori Wada said that Pakistan should undertake steps to enhance its exports to Japan. He also pointed out that Japanese investors have shown keen interest to invest in Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, KATI Chairman Mian Zahid Hussain spoke of the deep friendly ties between Pakistan and Japan, which are gaining strength with the passage of time. He pointed out that Pakistan has always preferred Japanese technology. Mian Zahid Hussain was of the view that visits of Pakistani businessmen to Japan should be encouraged.
The Chairman of KATI’s Committee for Diplomatic Affairs, Gulzar Feroze, also spoke on the occasion. KATI Vice Chairman Jauhar Ali Qandhari presented the vote of thanks.
